Walled-balcony is the new hit in Toronto

Walled-balcony is the new craze in Toronto. Torontonians often complain that most of the city’s surrounding neighborhoods look nearly indistinguishable. But this new design idea will definitly change things up.

Many people had it with the similarly looking streets bordered by common brown or grey houses. “I live here for 10 years but I always get lost. And its not only me. From time-to-time strangers come to my house thinking its theirs” said an angry man from Scarborough.

Toronto based exterior designers first introduced walled-balconies in the suburbs ten years ago but it didn’t become popular until recently. “I couldn’t imagine my house without it anymore. It was just plain and boring before we decided to install a walled-balcony above the garage door” told Michael who also lives in Scarborough.

The walled-balcony design originates from Berlin, Germany. During the Cold War the East German military walled many windows and balcony doors which were facing the Western side of the city. Although the walled-balcony was a symbol of oppression prior to the 1990s, it is now a popular design throughout Europe.

Its newfound popularity in Toronto can be explained by its fairly simple design. In most cases these balconies are made of plastic and can be fastened to the wall in a matter of minutes. The more expensive pieces come with more fashionable style that resembles the balconies of Florence and Venice. The most enthusiastic balcony lovers can purchase replicas of famous balconies such as the Truman Balcony from the White House or the Royal Balcony from the Buckingham Palace.
